Small 5v5 (roughly) pvp with elements of a MOBA. Constantly spawning nids to get in each team's way. Both teams want to capture or destroy a single objective inside their "base". Lots of room here to develop how this occurs and how much destruction is possible, but the general idea is protect your base, destroy theirs, kill all the tyranids along the way.
Phase 2: Larger Teams, larger maps. Maybe now 10v10 pvp, and now the Tyranids are entirely a 3rd faction that can win on its own. Instead of one "base", all three teams have multiple like the towers in a MOBA or Alterac valley. As forward positions are destroyed, the risk for defenders becomes greater until they only have their main base left. Tyranids can be temporarily subdued if their base is destroyed, but will return in greater force if neither side wins in the period they sleep.
Phase 3: Battle Royal. Take what works from the previous phases and shove it all into a faction based FFA between all 5 of the current factions. Bases, objectives, large open territory, no timer, just war eternal until someone wins. This should be the ultimate objective of merging game modes and fixing the various issues holding back the vision of the game.
