This error is likely due to an antivirus program blocking part of the game. If you have Avast or McAfee installed on your computer, please follow these instructions to add Eternal Crusade as an exception.
Avast
1. Open Avast.
2. Click Antivirus>Settings.
3. Paste the game's file patch into the "File Path" field.
(Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 - Eternal Crusade)
4. Click Add.
McAfee
1. Open McAfee.
2. Click on "Virus and Spyware Protection".
3. Click Scheduled Scans>Excluded Files and Folders.
4. Click add Folder.
5. Select the folder containing the game files.
(Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer 40,000 - Eternal Crusade)
6. Click Open.
If you are experiencing this issue with a different antivirus program, please add the game as an exception and this should resolve the problem with launching the game.
